Cats are great pets to own because they are fun, cute and inquisitive. Experts say that a cat's personality is like a three year old kid's, and that they are loyal and affectionate. Having cats is easy, but it takes some responsibility.
It's always important to remember to have all of the necessary accommodations for your new pet if you've just gotten one. This includes the basics like food and drink, in addition to somewhere for them to go to the bathroom. Their kitty litter should be somewhere tucked away in the house so that you don't have to look at it all the time.
You will need to scoop the litter every couple of days for single cats, but as often as every day if you have multiple cats. You can use regular or scoop litter, but scoop litter works better.
It's also important that your new pet knows where the food is going to be. Let your pet remember this by showing him or her where you keep the food once and before you know it, they'll know to visit that spot for their meals.
Like the litter box, you'll want to make sure that their food is also tucked away, free and clear from all of the clutter inside your house. Find a quiet room or part of one to keep everything in and they'll eat happily.
A cat will form strong and loyal bonds the more time it spends with its owner, so be ready to have some quality time with your cat. This makes it easier to train them to be good house pets, because you can correct them until they know better. This will keep them from ruining the furniture and destroying plants.
Protect the cat and other pets in the house by keeping them away from each other. The last thing a bird needs is a cat trying to eat it. The same goes for fish. Make sure there is a special lid on the fish tank to keep the cat out.
Keep an eye out for fleas and have them spayed or neutered at six months. This will make them calmer adults as well as keep the pet population down. They will also roam less and stay closer to home, which makes them safer.
