Who would think that your job as a dog owner would involve brushing your dog's teeth? Well, dog's can have bad breath just as people do. When you brush your dog's teeth, then you can enjoy those little doggy kisses with fresh breath, not doggy breath.
Brushing your dog's teeth is very important to the health of the dog just as it is to us dog owners. We don't want our dogs to suffer from any major dental issues, so brushing weekly can lower the risk of problems.
As we play with our dogs, we are throwing Frisbee's, sticks and other objects for our pets to retrieve. These things can easily break your dog's teeth. Regularly checking your dogs teeth can eliminate problems, and save on large vet bills.
Unlike their human counterparts, there are no doggy dentists. If a tooth gets broken, it's more than likely going to have to come out unless you can find it early and get your dog to the vet so he can prevent an infection. Broken teeth can cause infections in the mouth that can also lead to bad breath.
Visit your local pet store in the dog supplies section and purchase a doggy toothbrush or finger toothbrush. Be sure you get the dog toothpaste which is better for them if swallowed. Then get ready for those minty fresh doggy kisses. Remember that when you are brushing your dog's teeth, that you check regularly for anything that doesn't look right. Act immediately to make sure that any infection gets under control quickly.
Always use caution when playing with your dog. As we have mentioned, broken teeth can cause serious infection which can be harmful to your beloved dog, so play fetch and catch with your dog, but don't be careless. Your dog will love you for it.
If you are just not sure what are the best items for play, hit the dog pet supplies section at your local vet or pet store. There are many safe items on the market that are also age appropriate as identified by their labels. Remember that dog's love to chew things up so avoid things with buttons or other items they can choke on.
Remember that puppies are big chewers as their baby teeth are falling out and their canines are coming in. Keep a good supply of chew toys around. Variety will keep them interested and you will be helping them grow healthy teeth.
