Why Grooming Your Pet is Important

20 Jul 2009

It soothes our anger, lowers our blood pressure and calms our nerves to pet our animals. All they want is a friend and leader. Think about it they have no life but us. We are their life. Many people avoid petting their dog or cat due to the clumps of hair that come off in their hands or on their clothes because of the pet rubbing against them. Depending on the coat of your pet and the length of his hair will depend on the type of grooming equipment you need.

Hair from your pet is annoying and it has become a social awareness factor when you go out with pet hair on your clothing. Grooming is the first task you should be doing with your pet every day. If you acquire a shedding dog or cat you should allow at least 5 minutes a day to groom them. This will become a nice bonding time for him or her and they will become accustom to the brushing and enjoy it.

Taking care of the basic health and grooming needs of your pet can be expensive if taken to a professional, but most of the things a professional does you can do yourself. My German Shepherd looks forward to grooming (she knows that it is time for plenty of rub downs, playing, and treats). It is true that German Shepherds have a double coat. This means they have that nice thick layer of outer fur that's longer and coarser and a softer fluffy, downy layer of fur beneath. To keep this from being a complete mess, you can groom more frequently and make sure that when grooming you get deep into the undercoat as well.

Dog allergies are fairly common and can be the cause of dry, itchy skin. This is because a dog's skin is ten times more sensitive his caretaker's. Making time to do this however, will be essential in diagnosing and subsequently curing your dog's skin ailment. With the proper products, habitual grooming may even make a dogs skin healthier. Even organic pet food or treats can have ingredients in them that cause the dog's skin to be dry and flaky.

Pepper, my cat, needs to be brushed at least once a day during the summer months ... the dredded shedding season.  This helps her not have as many hair balls and makes it easier on her system.  She's become quite comfortable with her brushing and comes to find me when I haven't done it.  She leads me to where I keep her brush and I know exactly what she's saying.

Pet care is important to ensure that pets live long and healthy lives. One of the first things you need to do is to ensure that your pet is eating nutritious and healthy food. It's just as important to know what you should not be feeding your pet, as there are cases where the food that humans eat may prove lethal to some pets. Another thing to remember for the health of your pet is If you have limited space available, make sure you take your pet outside where it can exercise.
